My last day in Rio....I decided to do something a little adventuresome...just a little. A jeep tour...going into the Tijuca Rain Forest in an open jeep....well this is what it looked like....
But.....it began to rain...so we had to stop and put on the top.....
Then it cleared off and we had to stop and take off the top.....
on the way to the forest we went thru some unique parts of the city...like this one which has the tram tracks....did not see any tram however....BTW this hotel on the left side of the picture with the auto in front is where the infamous Amy Winehouse stayed in Rio.....and so it goes.....
As we head up to this forest located within the city.....I am able to get a few shots of the city....
Even the graffiti caught my eye....
Still not a picture perfect day here in Rio by any means...but the city of 7 million is vast and expansive as shown in this view.....
The view of the hillside with many homes close together, and while their residents may be some of the poorer in Rio...the homes send out a colorful message of beauty on the hillside....
After reaching the forest area....the monkey waterfall known as Cachoeira dos macacos (please...you know I had to have help in getting that word on the blog....my Espanol is no where near that good)
Look at this beautiful flower peeking out from the green of the forest.....
Another view of the falls...
This is a closeup view of the Jack Fruit that I had talked about in an earlier Blog. Again it is said to be like pineapple but be very sweet....
Next up....walking thru the forest....seeing tobacco plants....
The temperature in the forest is a constant...68 or so....and there seems to be plenty of moisture...a climate conducive to all this forest green....
A tree that seems to have been taken over by termites....but the guide said no...ummm...it is it's natural bark...
The plants were beautiful...lots of ferns....
This tree said to be Brazil's equivalent to the giant Sequoia....maybe in height but not in circumference....
This giant lizard was just trying to catch a few of the sun's rays....well we all were....
The indication that summer was approaching is the forest appears to close up...with all the new green growth...in the winter the amount of green diminishes and there is more light in the Forest....
One of the small steams in the Forest...while the water appears clear and clean...I did not taste it to insure it's quality....but did verify it was cold!!
And finally this flower getting ready to bloom at the base of the water.....
I was hoping on the way back to see some hang gliding...which is very popular here in Rio....but the weather did not afford me the opportunity...so I was left with this picture of the beach area....
The photo of the day....goes to this guy....he is just hanging out in the forest....looking for a meal maybe...or just resting after a full night of activity. The owl....wise beyond my years....
