Summer in Washington...resting up for RTW - Part 2

I have been back in Washington for 2 months now... enjoying being home.  But, the travel bug is getting to me and I am anxious to head back to the UK in late September for Part 2 of my Round the World trip.

So....what have I done in this 2 months??  Well I made a short trip to Chicago to see Granddaughter Schuyler play soccer and Grandson Keaton play baseball....take a look...

and....sometimes even an all-star struggles with the slow pace of the game....

All of us did enjoy a Sunday family outing to Field Museum.....

....someone trying to be a "mummy".....

...and thinking they could ride the bucking horse......

That short trip will lead to another to Chicago the middle of July for a week....

In the interim I am pet sitting a cute pug by the name of "Augie" for a friend who is on a work assignment for 3 weeks.  Augie is a riot and only tells me how much I miss having my own pet...but not until it get this travel bug out of my system...and that bug has grown!!!

I have booked a trip to Florida in August to visit great friends who have settled into a great life in Wilton Manor....by the sea...by the sea...by the beautiful sea!!!  Then in September I am heading off to Las Vegas - one of my favorite party places in the World.  So there will be time to enjoy one of the shows - Zumanity...a great Cirque Due Soleil production I am seeing for a 2nd time....awesome show!!

Also booked an RSVP cruise to the Caribbean in February.  A week with the guys in what will be a great break from winter here in DC.

One more booking....back to Europe - Brussels in May.  Yes, heading back for a couple months in Europe...a free lance trip....minimal reservations...and a rail pass....who knows where this journey will take...but as far south as Italy for sure...yessssssssssss

BUT.......I still have 3 months left on my Round the World part 2 journey....back to the UK, then France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Netherlands and back to the UK heading to Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Brazil before I hit Dallas and then Chicago for Christmas....whew!!!!!!!!

So that leads to one of my summer projects...."Como se dice?".....Spanish.

I decided on some tutoring to try and become acquainted with the language before hitting round 2....I think it was a failure!!!  I am able to understand a number of words....but no ability to write it and a limited range of being able to speak it...Which will lead to being a total tourist with translation book in hand and a struggle....

I have also been working on getting my train schedule together for my month in Europe in October...the reservations will be final in August.

I had to reserve some of the trains because there are limited accomodations for overnight service.  I also am going to try and plan 3 or 4 day trips Barcelona, Rome, Naples and Berlin.  Excitement is building!!!!!

My final project I have worked on that I want to tell you about is "canning"!!  Yeah...yeah...I know...but it was on my "bucket list".  Here is my first canning effort....

Pickled beets.....I really enjoy the flavor of beets so this was a true labor of love.  And I know that my grandmother Bertha....would have a smile on her face knowing her boy had done this. She passed on to a better life in 1970....after 87 glorious years.  Next canning adventure for me....Peaches!!!!

Okay, I always like to save a little something for the last picture...in this case pictures.  These photos are from Harrod's food hall in London....Enjoy....I love Harrod's and they love me.....

Happy Summer......
