Journey to Pisa

I had a few hours to spare before leaving Firenze on the evening train to Munich.  So....I was off to Pisa...to see if it really was true....is that tower actually leaning???  So off I go....exiting Firenze and giving you some idea of the amount of rails that are in just this one station....

..for example there is a train every 30 minutes from Firenze to Pisa....in both directions!!  But once you arrive in Pisa (At the 2nd stop in Pisa...the first being Pisa Central...don't make a mistake and get off here since it would be quite a distance to the Tower.

These are some of the scenes from the train on my journey to Pisa....

Arriving at the station you will exit via the University at Pisa....seems like a fairly small University.  After a 5 minute walk....I turn and wow....there it is....

...I must say...at times on the camera it appeared not to be leaning....and some of my pictures bore that out...

well...maybe just a little....

I found myself almost more fascinated by the Duomo that dominated the space around the Tower....in this diagram the Tower is but the one small round shape in the left corner...

Look at the beauty of the Duomo.....

Another strange statute in Pisa is that of Romulous and Remos...legendary founders of Rome....the original of course is in Rome....but in Pisa is a copy....

Now...I must get on my soap box...not only at the Great Wall in China....the Taj Mahal....Pyramids in Egypt....but here in Pisa.....there is the "wall" of vendors....selling almost the same type items at each of the stalls.  It is a tourist trap....first rate....almost like an "..I gotcha...".  However, in Washington we do the same thing...we have the trailer vendors...at most tourist sites.  Surely there has to be a better way to display....view and enjoy all of these sites without this...

One last look at the Tower of Pisa....with the sun providing an illumination to its spire......

Okay...back to Firenze to catch the train to Germany....leaving all that beauty of Italy behind me.   And not any too soon leaving all that pasta....pizza and the evil gelato.....bye bye!!!!
