Evita is still number 1....

Argentina maintains the image of Eva Peron as one similar to sainthood.  She died at a very young age - 32 - and for the 4 years that she was in power created an image that few political figures in the World could replicate.

The infamous balcony is well known to millions...either from the play or the motion picture - Evita!  But there are other remembrances in the city....such as her office - a building no less....

But the one place which draws the most people is the burial site of Eva...as well other members of her family.  The mausoleum where her remains are entombed are very opulent.....very wealthy persons have been buried here and expended hundreds of thousands of dollars on their individual site.....Here is a view of the mausoleum itself.....

Then we have Eva Peron's final resting place....initially her remains were taken to Spain....then later brought to this site....Duarte was her maiden name....

Buenos Aires is not all Eva Peron....just most of it!!  The type and number of sculptures is as varied as any I have seen....check some of these out....

...and one of my favorites.....

...a building dedicated to Ireland.....

...the ever present police presence...whether it be Buenos Aires city police... the Special Swat teams....or Naval Police....

Tomorrow a day trip to Montevideo, Uruguay.....a 3 hour journey by ferry from Buenos Aires....

The photo of the day is this one of a couple of pigeons....one asking the other...."...how about we see if there is anything happening over by the Plaza?"
